STAINED GLASS WINDOWS OF THE ROMANESQUE CHURCH OF Waha

Romanesque church of Waha « Martyrdom of Saint Stephen, 2003 »
(on permanent display)
After capturing light in his watercolours, Folon turned to the magic of stained glass windows. With the collaboration of the Loire workshop, a master glassmaker in Chartres, Folon was able to illuminate the Romanesque church of Waha where the gradations of colour and transparency vary with the seasons. Fifteen stained glass windows relate the tale of the martyrdom of Saint Etienne, and enliven this classified building, which is a major heritage building of the Walloon region.
Only a stone’s throw from Marche, nestled against a hill, the tiny village of Waha encircles the oldest Romanesque church in Belgium (1050). In June 2005 St Etienne’s/St Stephen’s was embellished with stained glass windows created by Jean-Michel Folon, which drew their inspiration from the legend of the martyr’s life.
