Aula Magna - FOLON AND THE THEATRE
Find out more about a lesser known aspect of Folon’s talent, i.e. his creations for the theatre world : the Aula Magna presents original watercolours, documents, posters and projections.
Jean-Michel Folon contributed to several theatre creations. For the first time ever this exhibition will be showing the originals of the works that he created in this context. Visitors can discover original and unusual watercolours, sketches and scale models which he created for several plays on which he collaborated, such as Gianni Schicchi by Puccini at the Geneva Opera, La Fugue du Petit Poucet after Michel Tournier or Puccini’s La Bohème for the Puccini Festival. Side by side with the original works are photos of the performances, projections, posters of the plays and films.
The Aula Magna, a vast contemporary complex, was inaugurated in 2001 and is an exceptional cultural space which integrates auditoriums and a congress centre.
This large glass box, which was created by the architect Philippe Samyn, was erected in between Grand Place and the lake of Louvain-la-Neuve, and hosts many of the large public gatherings in this university city.
